After dealing with the scorching summer heat, if you think your skin will have some downtime this rainy season, you might need to think again. Even if you manage to skip, hop and jump your way around the erratic downpours, the ever-present humidity has other ideas in mind for your makeup. Face drenched, makeup dripping, day ruined already–it didn’t have to be this way!
If you’re ready to call it quits with drippy, runny makeup, check out these methods for waterproofing your look–even when you’re not actually wearing waterproof products.
Start with a primer
Start by prepping your skin with a good primer. A primer creates a smooth base for your makeup, helping it adhere better and last longer.
Opt for a silicone-based primer like the Benefit The POREfessional Face Primer to create a barrier between your skin and the pigments, ensuring your makeup stays intact despite exposure to weather.
Prime your brows
Designed to keep your brows in place, a waxy primer like Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Fix Primer also keeps water at bay if applied on top of your favorite brow pencil or powder.
Work it forward through the brow hairs and backward to ensure you don’t miss any stragglers.
Set with a powder
For added protection, we recommend opting for a translucent powder over a tinted powder or powder foundation, as it will help you look like you have less products on your face.
Apply a thin layer of Huda Beauty Easy Bake Loose Powder on your face with the straight end of a beauty brush, leave it on for a few minutes, then gently wipe off with a larger brush.
Layer your eyeliner
Now that you’ve set your face, we suggest using that technique to keep your eyeliner in place. Use your usual black or brown eyeliner, and set it in place with a cream shadow in the same tone.

Use a setting spray
The final step to waterproof your look should be a setting spray. It literally does exactly what it says and makes your look last all day.
Sprays such as MAC Prep + Prime +Fix usually contain ingredients known to prevent the makeup from creasing and moving, rendering a smudge-proof and waterproof effect. It is essential if you really want to maintain the look throughout the day.
