For a city that thrives on movement and momentum, it takes something truly immersive to make Manila slow down. That’s exactly what unfolded at Ruby Wong’s Godown inside Admiral Hotel Manila – MGallery, where Opium Bar staged a two-night takeover that blurred the lines between cocktail craft and cinematic escape.
Held on April 24 and 25, the takeover transformed the already enigmatic speakeasy into a deeper, more indulgent world—one that leaned fully into mood, mystery, and sensory storytelling.

Ruby Wong’s Godown has always carried a certain allure. Inspired by 1930s Shanghai, the hidden bar is layered with deep reds, velvet textures, and a quiet narrative built around its fictional muse, Miss Ruby Wong. It’s a space designed to feel secretive, almost suspended in time. But during the takeover, that identity was pushed further. The lighting dimmed, the haze thickened, and the room moved to a slower rhythm—guided by vinyl soundscapes and a deliberate, almost hypnotic energy.


Just beyond the bar, the experience expanded into Noodle Alley—a Hong Kong-inspired Asian food station that grounded the night in warmth and familiarity. The concept drew from classic Hong Kong street dining culture, with hand-pulled noodles made fresh on-site, stretched and folded in real time before being served in rich, savory broths and wok-style sauces. It was comfort food with theater—anchoring the surreal atmosphere of the bar with something deeply grounding and familiar.
At the center of it all was a cocktail menu that showcased a strong collaboration between standout spirit brands, including LOCA LOKA, BONIFACIO, and Manille, all woven into layered, experimental creations that defined the night’s flavor identity.




DEE DEE DA DAH (PHP550)
LOCA LOKA Blanco Tequila, Manille Calamansi Liqueur, lotus seed, butterfly pea, and lychee—floral, citrus-driven, and visually striking.
ECHOES (PHP550)
BONIFACIO White Rum, LOCA LOKA Blanco Tequila, Manille Calamansi Liqueur, spicy pink pomelo, boat noodle spice, Thai basil, and elderflower tonic—bright, herbal, and layered with heat and lift.
PLEASURE SPIKED WITH PAIN (PHP650)
LOCA LOKA Tequila Reposado, tomato Campari, pineapple vermouth, and basil—savory, bittersweet, and deliberately complex.
BANANALADA (PHP650)
BONIFACIO White Rum, LOCA LOKA Blanco Tequila, Manille Calamansi Liqueur, corn husk, and bananalada foam—tropical, textured, and playful.
PB&A (PHP500)
Apple, peanut butter, spices, and soda—comforting, nostalgic, and slightly unexpected.
VITAMIN-C (PHP500)
Buttery coconut water, strawberry, and raspberry tea—light, refreshing, and softly aromatic.

Each drink functioned as more than a cocktail—it was a narrative built through LOCA LOKA’s bold tequila base expressions, BONIFACIO’s clean white rum structure, and Manille’s distinctly Filipino citrus liqueur character, creating a distinctly local yet globally styled flavor language.
What made the takeover resonate went beyond the menu. With Opium Bar stepping into the Godown, the night became a quiet exchange of cultures and philosophies—Southeast Asian influence meeting Filipino spirits innovation, all expressed through modern mixology. Paired with the grounding presence of Hong Kong-style Asian comfort food at Noodle Alley, the experience became layered and complete: smoke and spice, cocktails and noodles, theatre and tradition.



In a nightlife landscape often defined by excess, this was something else entirely. It was intentional, immersive, and fleeting—existing only for two nights, and leaving behind the kind of memory that feels almost dreamlike.

Because in the end, the Opium Bar takeover at Ruby Wong’s Godown wasn’t just about cocktails. It was about stepping into a layered world—where smoke, spice, hand-pulled noodles, and spirit intertwined—and, for a few hours, letting Manila fade into the background.
