When Taylor Swift announced her engagement to Travis Kelce on August 26, 2025, it wasn’t just a celebrity headline. For Swifties, it felt like the real-life ending to a story Taylor has been writing for nearly two decades, through lyrics, performances, and unforgettable public moments. Here’s a look back at all the times she made us believe in love, and how they now point straight to her garden proposal.
1. Mary’s Song (2006)
Lyric: “And you looked at me, got down on one knee… And I’ll be eighty-seven, you’ll be eighty-nine, I’ll still look at you like the stars that shine.”
Back when Taylor was just 16, she wrote a lyric about a lifelong love. Nearly twenty years later, the words feel like prophecy. The fact that she specifically sang “eighty-seven”, now forever tied to Travis’s NFL jersey number, has fans reeling. It’s the kind of Easter egg you couldn’t script, but Taylor somehow did.
2. Love Story (2008)
Lyric: “He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring, and said, ‘Marry me, Juliet, you’ll never have to be alone… It’s a love story, baby, just say yes.’”
This was the anthem of every hopeless romantic. Seeing Taylor accept a proposal in a rose-filled garden felt like she finally stepped into her own fairy tale ending.
