Bhutan, long celebrated for its untouched landscapes and deep-rooted traditions, is stepping into the global style spotlight with its very first fashion week happening from October 27 to November 1.

The week-long event is more than just a runway, it’s a cultural showcase. Hosted by Bhutan’s Department of Media, Creative Industry and Intellectual Property together with the Royal Textile Academy, the debut fashion week will highlight the artistry of Bhutanese textiles, contemporary design, and creative talent. From the intricate handlooms woven in quiet villages to fresh sketches from emerging designers, the country is ready to share its story with both local and international audiences.
So far, 11 designers are confirmed to join, with more expected as the schedule is finalized. Organizers describe October as the perfect season, when autumn colors mirror the earth’s transformation, making it an ideal backdrop for Bhutan Fashion Week.

“This is one small step for Bhutan but a giant leap for our modest fashion industry. We aspire to rub shoulders with the ‘big four’ fashion weeks in the world one day,” the team behind the event shared. The hope is to make it a recurring annual tradition, blending Bhutan’s cultural heritage with a future-forward approach to design.
Show director Kelly Dorji adds that the program will take audiences on a journey across Bhutan’s past, present, and future, spotlighting the country’s most talented creators and giving them a platform to reach the world.

True to Bhutan’s ethos of mindful living, the organizers hint that sustainability will play a key role in the collections on display. As the website puts it, the country has always “held a baton of sustainability in the maze of modernity.”
Whether you’re a fashion enthusiast or simply curious about how a Himalayan kingdom translates heritage into high style, Bhutan’s first fashion week is set to be an inspiring moment on the global calendar.
