CHANEL Finds a New Mood for COCO MADEMOISELLE—and Gracie Abrams Feels Right at Home

Twenty-five years after COCO MADEMOISELLE became one of modern perfumery’s defining fragrances, CHANEL returns to its icon with a different mood. COCO MADEMOISELLE CRUSH ABSOLU doesn’t replace the original, it explores what happens when its sparkling signature is wrapped in deeper amber, creamy vanilla, earthy vetiver, and a more pronounced patchouli trail. Familiar yet undeniably richer, it reveals another side of a fragrance that has long defined effortless elegance.

Created by CHANEL Perfumer-Creator Olivier Polge, CRUSH ABSOLU builds on the unmistakable identity of COCO MADEMOISELLE while drawing out its warmer, more sensual facets. Grapefruit and lychee bring a vibrant freshness before rose and jasmine unfold at the heart. As the fragrance settles, amber, patchouli, vanilla, and vetiver leave behind a fuller, more enveloping trail that feels refined rather than overpowering.

Polge describes the fragrance as “an affirmation of the self,” imagining it as something that truly comes alive only when worn.

“This fragrance offers a deeply personal experience that exists only when it is worn,” he says. “It is not about conforming, but about revealing oneself, surprising oneself.”

That philosophy has been woven into COCO MADEMOISELLE since its debut in 2001. Inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s independent spirit, the fragrance became a signature for women drawn to confidence, individuality, and timeless style rather than passing trends.

CRUSH ABSOLU carries that same spirit into a richer olfactory territory. The signature citrus brightness remains, now layered with a deeper ambery warmth, softened by creamy vanilla and grounded by earthy vetiver and patchouli. It’s recognizably COCO MADEMOISELLE, but with a more intimate, lingering presence.

Like every CHANEL fragrance, CRUSH ABSOLU reflects the House’s meticulous approach to perfumery, from carefully cultivated raw materials to the precision behind every stage of its composition. The fragrance is presented in a subtly refreshed version of the signature COCO MADEMOISELLE bottle, allowing the scent itself to take center stage.

The launch also welcomes a new face to the COCO MADEMOISELLE story.

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and CHANEL House Ambassador Gracie Abrams steps in as the new egerie for COCO MADEMOISELLE CRUSH ABSOLU. Known for her intimate songwriting and understated presence, Abrams brings a quiet confidence that feels naturally aligned with the fragrance.

“It’s unreal to be the new face of Coco Mademoiselle. I feel an immense sense of pride,” Abrams says. “I love that Coco is someone who leaves a mark everywhere she goes. Sometimes, I wish I could be more like her.”

Her connection to Gabrielle Chanel goes beyond appearance or generation. Both women built their identities by trusting instinct over expectation, one reshaping fashion with bold simplicity, the other carving out a space in music through honesty and vulnerability. It’s that shared sense of authenticity that makes Abrams a fitting choice for this new chapter.

As Thomas du Pré de Saint Maur, Head of Global Creative Resources for Fragrance and Beauty at CHANEL, explains, “Gracie naturally embodies the spirit of CHANEL. Like Gabrielle Chanel once did, she asserts herself without artifice, driven by a fierce sense of freedom and an instinctive elegance.

There is that liveliness in her, that unfussy refinement, which recalls Coco’s modernity. It is less a matter of silhouette than of attitude: Gracie arrives where she is not expected, always in motion, charting her own path.
