The Exosome Skin Treatment is one of the popular regenerative skincare therapies these days, first clinically offered around 2020. It is a skin repair procedure wherein tiny cells are injected to achieve improved firmness, texture, and tone of the skin.
I tried the Exosome Skin Repair Treatment recently at Bioessence in Robinsons Place Las Piñas. For more than 30 years, Bioessence is one of the trusted Filipino-founded aesthetic beauty clinics in the Philippines, so I felt fortunate to be invited by the brand to try the procedure. Surely, they know what they’re doing since they’ve been in the business for so long. I had my first encounter with Bioessence way back in 2009, when I was able to interview the company’s founder, dermatologist Dr. Emma Beleno, for a feature on their slimming procedures as published in a newspaper. Since then, I would go to Bioessence for some treatments here and there throughout the years. I was delighted to learn that they started to offer more skincare treatments last year, and in this branch.

Exosomes are nano-sized extracellular vesicles derived from stem cells that play a crucial role in cell communication and tissue regeneration. They contain essential growth factors, peptides, and proteins that stimulate collagen production, reduce inflammation, and promote overall skin health.
The Exosome Skin Repair Treatment is best to address fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It also addresses uneven skin tone and texture, skin laxity and loss of elasticity, dehydrated or dull-looking skin, enlarged pores, and sun damage and age spots.
Before I started the procedure, I had a consultation with Dr. Ernest John Lumberio who basically explained more about what they’re about to do to my face. I also got to raise my main skin concerns, which were premature fine lines. The doctor was nice enough to explain what goes down in the treatment.
“The treatment is done right from the stem cells, where the exosome is being extracted. Exosome is a cell-to-cell communication tool, kind of like messengers within our cells. Exosome, when injected into your skin, can signal the skin cells to produce collagen for tissue repair and cell rejuvenation. It improves the texture of skin, and repairs fine lines. This is a great anti-aging skin treatment since it pushes the production of collagen into the skin area,” Dr. Lumberio explained.
The procedure is divided into three parts: deep skin cleansing, topical anesthesia, and the exosome micro-needling proper. Micro-needling is used to inject the exosome fluid serum into the face.
I was told to expect some redness and peeling after the treatment, since it addresses age lines and spots through micro-needling. According to doc, one can see the initial results already usually after three days to one week after the first session. At least three sessions are advised for maximum results.
So I was led to the private room to start the treatment. I was first given a few snacks and a glass of drink to enjoy, so I wouldn’t feel hungry as the session was a little over an hour. I was given a robe too, and was instructed to lie down on the bed once I was ready.

And so we started with the deep cleansing part. The therapist, of course, first removed my makeup with a cleanser. Then a separate cleanser milk was applied onto my skin, which smelled so good by the way! Some more formulations from Korean skin procedure brand OxygenCeuticals were also used on my skin for further cleaning, from relaxing serum cream to a cool face mask. The face massage was particularly relaxing too.

Then onto the second part: the topical anesthesia. This was lengthier than what I initially expected, but it was fine since this part right here was a major need to lessen the pain I could feel from the third part of the session, which was the micro-needling of exosomes.
After a few minutes, the doctor came in to do the exosome micro-needling proper. I was actually expecting a painful treatment in this part right here since needles were involved, but it was surprisingly gentle and calm. I felt teeny tiny needles poked into my skin, but they mostly felt just tender.
After the micro-needling came the photodynamic therapy light. The red light mask was for healing and collagen renewal.
I didn’t have that much redness nor peeling after the session, even if it was explained to me that those could be expected.
As early as four days, I could tell that some fine lines on my forehead were lessened, and some acne spots on my cheeks were totally gone, too! Needless to say, the Exosome Skin Repair by Bioessence did some major wonders on my face. I am looking forward to look more youthful and radiant after more sessions.
