Everything You Need To Know About Permanent Makeup

By Red Dimaandal-Escamillas

The pros of permanent makeup are certainly tempting. Imagine never having to redo your eyeliner every single day, sculpt your brows and put lipstick on. However, keep in mind that it’s not without its downsides–namely a pretty serious commitment, a couple of hours of minimal pain, and of course, the potential of risks.

What is permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup refers to cosmetic tattoos that help you recreate your favorite makeup looks in a semipermanent manner. “Semi-permanent makeup is perfect for those who want to save time and simplify their beauty routine. It’s a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution that enhances their natural features, so you wake up every day looking polished, without the daily effort,” an expert from Strokes Eye Beauty Studio said.

Though this is a wonderful option for those who crave a daily makeup look that’s fuss-free, it’s important to remember that the key term in semipermanent makeup is “permanent.” As seamless and easy as it sounds, in the end, you are still making a permanent decision.

What are some things to know before getting semi-permanent makeup?

According to Strokes Eye Beauty Studio, here are some things that you should know before getting a semi-permanent makeup:

  • Ensure that you set your schedule accordingly.
  • There are few changes with the result days after the procedure (lips, brows and eyeliner). Please be guided in with aftercare instructions that will be provided by the expert.
  • No tanning or direct sun exposure at least 3 days prior.
  • Do not book your facial treatments such as chemical peels, laser, Botox, and the likes before the session to make sure the shape of your brows will follow your natural features.
  • Schedule your trips accordingly as swimming, sun exposure and saunas must be avoided for at least 7 to 14 days.

Does it hurt and how long is the recovery period?

“Most of the clients experience zero to minimal pain during the procedure. With the help of a good quality and effective topical anesthetic cream, we are able to give our clients a comfortable semi-permanent makeup experience.”

How long does it last?

“Semi-permanent makeup services such as brow sculpting, lip, and eyeliner tattoos typically last 1 to 2 years. However, in some cases, results can last up to 3 to 5 years. Longevity depends on factors like your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you follow the aftercare instructions.”
