The rich textile heritage of the Philippines took the centerstage during the latest runway show of Filipino fashion designer Happy Andrada.
The Philippine indigenous fabrics were used to showcase reimagined Filipiniana designs during the fashion runway segment at the Pinoy Playlist Music Festival 2024 held in BGC Arts Center recently.
Andrada’s collection was a vibrant tribute to the diverse regions of the Philippines. Using fabrics like T’nalak, Pina Silk, Knotted Pina, Inaul, Abel Ilcoco, Yakan, Jusi, and Pina Callado, she infused each piece with intricate embroidery and avant-garde tailoring.
The designs reflected the designer’s commitment to preserving Filipino artistry while pushing the boundaries of contemporary fashion. Highlights from the collection included “The West Philippine Sea”, which was also featured in the Fashion Art Biennale in Seoul, Korea last September.
“I am truly honored to be a part of the Pinoy Playlist Music Festival,” said Happy Andrada. “This event celebrates the best of Filipino culture, and it’s a privilege to share my vision of modern Filipiniana with such a passionate audience.”
