If your skin is still feeling dry and tight, you’re not imagining it—the cold weather is still here, and it continues to pull moisture from your skin every single day. Low outdoor humidity mixed with indoor heating weakens your skin’s natural barrier, leading to flakiness, itchiness, and that uncomfortable “tight” feeling. That’s why moisturizing during the cold season isn’t optional—it’s essential.
A good rule of thumb during the cold season is to moisturize at least twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. The best time to apply your cream is right after showering or washing, while your skin is still slightly damp, to help lock in hydration. And don’t be shy about reapplying! If your hands, elbows, or legs start feeling dry during the day (especially after washing or going outside), your skin is simply asking for another layer.

Research backs this up. A clinical study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that applying moisturizer twice daily, particularly after bathing, significantly improved skin hydration and strengthened the skin barrier compared to untreated skin. Consistent use increased water content in the outer layer of the skin and reduced dryness over time.

The takeaway? While the cold weather sticks around, your moisturizer should be your daily companion. Choose richer creams with hydrating ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid and barrier-supporting ingredients such as ceramides or shea butter. With consistent, generous application, you can keep your skin soft, comfortable, and glowing.
