It started so promisingly, you even took a couple of selfies because you looked that good. So why then, after such a reassuring start, does your foundation do a disappearing act on you post 12pm?
Even if it seems impossible especially during the summer season, achieving a makeup look that lasts all day can be done. While we can’t control the weather on any given day, there are plenty of ways to prevent our makeup from sweating off our faces—from expert application techniques and heavy-duty setting sprays to the right primer for your skin type.
Keep scrolling for sweat-proof makeup advice you need this summer.
It all starts with skincare
Interestingly enough, the most important step in making your makeup last is to start with a minimal skincare routine. Skip any unnecessary steps or products that might have your skin feeling heavy.
A simple skincare routine in the morning is to cleanse, apply vitamin C serum, and follow up with moisturizer and an SPF with at least level 30 protection. After you’ve applied your skincare and SPF, let it sit for a few minutes before moving on to makeup.
During this time of the year, our skin tends to get oilier, and it is common for people to skip the moisturizing step in their routines. But hydrated skin is key to ensuring makeup lasts. What you apply beneath your makeup is crucial for the longevity of your base, so it’s worth investing the time to get it right.
As for the primer, if you want your makeup to last, then applying one before your foundation is key. There are several kinds of primers to choose from, but you’ll want to primarily focus on using one with a waterproof formula.

Choose the right foundation
Finding the right foundation always comes down to personal preference on texture. For the base, after priming, you can wear a thin layer of long-lasting formula, followed by a few brush strokes of a glow-enhancing formula. Lastly, a very thin layer of powder only in the T-zone to lock everything in.
We recommend using barely-there products that mesh seamlessly with the skin. Thinner formulas have the added benefit of not sitting in pores. But for those who prefer medium coverage, look for products labelled long wear, which swap out oil for water so they wear longer without oxidising (when foundation combines with oils in the skin, causing it to deepen in color).

Waterproof your eyes
Swapping your normal mascara to a waterproof mascara is key during the summer. Also worth noting: your eyebrows are part of your T-zone and are subject to excess oil. So it’s important to use a long-lasting formula to keep them filled in and lacquered into place.

Set everything in place
Setting your makeup is a necessary final touch for hot weather. Spritz a setting spray all over for a hydrated, fresh look that holds makeup in place for 12 hours. You can also opt for a loose setting powder for this step. To avoid piling, stick to powder formulas for your bronzer and blush, too.
