At Paris Fashion Week, all eyes were on Matthieu Blazy, who made his highly anticipated debut as the creative director of Chanel. Blazy is only the fourth designer in the luxury house’s storied history, following in the footsteps of Coco Chanel herself, the legendary Karl Lagerfeld, and Lagerfeld’s longtime right-hand, Virginie Viard.
With such a rich legacy to uphold, Blazy’s appointment marks a significant turning point for the French fashion powerhouse. His show, held in a stunning venue filled with anticipation, demonstrated his commitment to preserving Chanel’s traditions while offering a fresh perspective on the brand’s future.

Blazy’s collection spoke to his refined understanding of both modernity and elegance, effortlessly blending these elements with the quintessential Chanel aesthetic. The show opened featuring the house’s classic tweed suits updated with an unexpected fluidity that contrasted the typically structured look. There were also playful reinterpretations of Chanel’s signature elements, such as the use of pearls, the interlocking CC logo, and the iconic bouclé fabric, but presented in a more relaxed way. Each piece balanced between high fashion and wearability, emphasizing Blazy’s ability to marry luxury with practicality.

The show itself was a masterclass in orchestrated spectacle. The runway was filled with lit towering crane structures, transforming the venue into what resembled a construction site.

Blazy’s debut collection for Chanel is already being hailed as a defining moment in the brand’s storied history. It’s clear that his vision respects the legacy of those who came before him, yet he injects a new energy that promises to captivate the fashion world in the years to come.
