We can expect more visits in the Philippines from celebrated K-pop idol and actor Kim Myung Soo, as the South Korean superstar officially signed under Universal Records Philippines and GLXY Entertainment to pursue a career in the country!
“With this opportunity, I’ll definitely be returning to the Philippines more often,” the 32 years old Korean artist said through an interpreter at the press conference of his contract signing. “I’ll be showing different activities so I hope you continue to look out for that.”
Kim Myung Soo, also known as L, is currently in Manila for magazine cover shoots, TV show appearances, and other exciting stints. He recently made a guesting in the popular noon time variety It’s Showtime, where he entertained the audience with his vocals. He is poised to introduce upcoming music projects, as well as possible acting endeavors plus endorsements which both his Philippine and Korean management teams are currently reviewing.
It was just last August when L was in Manila for his Reboot Asia Tour Fan Meeting before this momentous contract signing.
“Since everyone knows that Kim Myung Soo came from K-Pop idol group Infinite, and he’s also doing a solo career, definitely we’ll be coming up with songs, probably next year,” Kathleen Dy-Go, Universal Records Philippines Managing Director, said during the press con. “We are also looking out for drama series and movies. Of course, hopefully, endorsements.”
The Korean superstar made his debut in 2010 as the vocalist of boy band Infinite, which skyrocketed him into stardom. He also made a name for himself as an actor starting in 2011, with applauded success as he starred in various successful Japanese and Korean drama and rom-com projects. Some of them were Japanese drama Jiu Keishicho Tokushuhan Sousagakari, tvN’s romance comedy series Flower Band, MBC’s Cunning Single Lady and SBS’s My Lovely Girl.
Dare to Love Me, a South Korean production which aired in May to July 2024, is super loved by global fans for fulfilling all the classic K-drama romantic-comedy tropes. Kim Myung Soo played the lead male role of Shin Yoon-bok opposite Kim Hong-do, played by Lee Yoo Young.
Before his military enlistment in South Korea, L launched his solo album called Memory in 2021, with impressive success across Asia.
With his next career moves also set in the Philippines, L shared during the press con that he is currently learning some Filipino words such as mabuhay, and has enjoyed some Filipino food paired with rice so far.
“Right now, I’ve been receiving different proposals. We’ll be making preparations to study (the local language) depending on those projects,” he answered when asked about what he’s learned yet about the Filipino language.
When asked by STYLISH what does he love best about his singing and acting careers respectively, L had this to say:
“The two careers are definitely different, but there’s a certain synergy in the two.”
“There are aspects in singing that help with my acting career, and there are things about my acting that help my singing career. And I’m very happy to show both aspects of my career here in the Philippines.”
“As I know both acting and singing, I’m happy to be showing both of those sides, and I’m hoping you’ll look forward to all of them.”
We can’t wait to see more of Kim Myung Soo in the Philippines!
