Drop everything, because the universe is finally correcting a major oversight: Lea Salonga is officially getting her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! That’s right—our favorite Broadway queen and Disney Legend is joining the Class of 2026, making history as the first-ever pure Filipina to secure a spot on that famous sidewalk.
Honestly? If your first reaction to this news was, “Wait, she didn’t have one already?!”—you are definitely not alone. For anyone who grew up in the ’90s, Lea Salonga was literally the soundtrack to your childhood. She is the voice behind not one, but two iconic Disney Princesses. When you belt out “A Whole New World” in the shower or try to hit those emotional notes in Mulan’s “Reflection,” you are trying (and probably failing) to match Lea’s flawless vocals.
But her legacy goes way deeper than Disney. Back when she was just a teenager, she hopped on a plane to London and New York to originate the role of Kim in Miss Saigon. She didn’t just perform; she completely conquered the theater world, becoming the first Asian woman to win a Tony Award. She then went on to shatter glass ceilings on Broadway by playing Eponine and Fantine in Les Misérables.
Basically, if there is a massive, iconic musical theater role out there, Lea has probably mastered it.
What makes this Walk of Fame star so special isn’t just the piece of sidewalk in Los Angeles. It’s the fact that for over forty years, Lea has been holding the door open for Asian and Filipino talent on the global stage. She proved that a girl from Manila could command worldwide standing ovations, sing for presidents, and become a household name.
Even with all these legendary accolades, Lea remains incredibly humble. Reacting to the massive news, she described the achievement as “a big pinch” and “surreal”, adding, “It’s nice that there are folks who have still been able to find me relevant.”
Relevant? Lea, you are the one!
The official ceremony is being backed by the Manila International Film Festival, who rightly nominated her for the honor.
So, while the concrete star might be new, we all know the truth: Lea Salonga has been a superstar since day one.
Clap for the queen! It is officially Lea’s world, and we’re just living in it.
