Lola Amour Celebrates Love On Loop Era With Kokoro in Manila

By Dara Clariza Evangelista

At the recent Love On Loop concert, Lola Amour celebrated their sophomore album with a night filled with music, laughter, and heartfelt moments, joined by Japanese pop artist Kokoro of PSYCHIC FEVER, who lit up the stage with them for two songs. The collaboration marked their joint single “The Moment,” alongside Lola Amour’s crowd-favorite “Raining in Manila.”

During the press session before the show, Kokoro shared how much he enjoyed working with the Filipino band. “What I learned from Lola Amour are the strong vibes of their music and the maturity of their sound,” he said, explaining with a grin that he even pretended his morning coffee was wine just to match their vibe while recording. Lola Amour’s frontman Pio Dumayas admitted he was intimidated at first but said, “Now Kokoro is good friends with all of us.” Their friendship showed throughout rehearsals, with Kokoro describing the band as warm and kind: “They have a warm aura and were very kind to me, so I’m thankful for that. It didn’t feel like a job at all. It was fun.”

That sense of fun carried into the show itself. Before Lola Amour took the stage, the night kicked off with lively sets from Itchyworms, The Ridleys, and KAIA. It was such a strong lineup that even while our feet were aching, we were happy to find a cozy chill area at the back where we could sit, play around, and still enjoy the music. Then came the big moment, Lola Amour at last. They swept us up into a full airplane ride experience through Love On Loop, while still treating the crowd to their well-loved hits.

It was especially surreal for me. Back when I was in college at De La Salle University, I saw them perform during our University Week, and it was so fun to watch them back then. Seeing them now in a completely different, more artistic setting felt like watching an old friend grow, while realizing that I’ve changed too.

As Dumayas summed it up, “We’re much more ‘adult’ as a band now… Pre-pandemic, we were just college kids with a hobby. We had to learn to be adults and be professional, and that’s where we are now.” Even so, their concert showed they’ve kept their lighthearted spirit, and it made the night unforgettable.
