Fashion designer Axel Que from Cebu, the Queen City of the South of the Philippines, showcased just how boundless Filipino avant garde fashion can be with the use of Philippine indigenous materials and inspiration from Cebuano culture.
Que’s runway presentation for the 10th anniversary of ‘Marry Me At Marriott’ bridal style showcase last week was a genuine fashion spectacle, with his elaborate creations featuring intricate detailing.
Miss Universe Philippines 2021 titleholder and Miss U 2021 top 5 finalist Beatrice Luigi Gallarde Gomez opened the runway segment for Axel, donning an elaborate couture in color brown which is reminiscent of Philippine indigenous fashion.

Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados closed the Axel Que fashion show segment with intricate allure in eggshell hue.
The designer took her bow to wrap up his segment. She talked with STYLISH right after the show.

In an interview with STYLISH, the design visionary shared that the collection is inspired by one aspect of the Philippine culture.
“The concept of my collection is ‘Harvest Pride’ and I’m very fulfilled and happy we’re finally able to showcase our collection,” Axel shared.
Que has always been known for his over-the-top creations usually worn as national costumes for international beauty pageants by Filipina representatives.
As the ‘Marry Me at Marriott’ fashion gala showcases bridal style annually, it’s refreshing to see how Axel stayed true to his Filipino extravaganza aesthetic– with just a bit toned down to interpret wedding fashion in an avant garde, indigenous, and very Filipino way. A couple of the avant garde headdresses donned by the models were pretty much inspired by the traditional Pinoy salakot hat, which just lets you imagine the vastness of inspiration the Filipino culture can bring out of couturiers for runway show possibilities.
