Marry Me At Marriott With Veejay Floresca: Inclusivity in ‘Happiness’ Bridal Collection 2024

By Marane A. Plaza

Inclusivity and feel-good vibe were the central theme of the runway show of Los Angeles-based Filipina fashion designer Veejay Floresca for the recently held ‘Marry Me at Marriott’ bridal fashion event.

Titled “Happiness,” Veejay shared that she wanted to make people feel good about the runway experience of watching her new bridal collection showcase, citing her excitement about coming home to the Philippines after being in Los Angeles, California for ten years.

“The name of the collection is ‘Happiness’ because when I was doing this collection, I was really excited and happy. And I want people to feel happy when they see the collection. Kaya very wearable lang talaga, something people can relate to,” the Project Runway Philippines season 1 alum shared in an interview with STYLISH after the show.

It’s also note-worthy that she integrated inclusivity in the runway show with her model-casting.

“It’s important for me (to advocate inclusivity in the runway). I’m a trans woman of color. This is my way of telling people that fashion is for everybody. It does not have to be size zero or size 14. Fashion is for everybody, and I want to highlight that. Kaya nag-hire talaga ako ng iba’s-ibang klaseng models (That’s why I cast different body types of models),” she added.

“What I really love about the fashion industry in the Philippines, you always feel at home. I’m gone for almost like a decade, you can still feel the love and support and all the cheer, Philippines will always be home talaga so I’m happy to be here,” Veejay said.

Indeed, this “glocal” Filipina designer knows how it is to represent her roots globally with the right mindset, fun personality and brilliant craftsmanship.

Floresca is set to showcase her next runway collection in New York on September 7 for Filipinxt.
