This year, the road to the crown is taking a distinctly Filipino step forward.
For Miss Universe Philippines 2026, glamour begins from the ground up, with candidates walking in officially endorsed footwear proudly made in Marikina, long celebrated as the country’s Shoe Capital. But these are far more than pageant heels. They are a statement of craftsmanship, sustainability, and Filipino ingenuity in motion.

Developed under the SAFATOS (Shoes and Footwear Accessories R&D Towards Omnibus Solutions) Program, powered by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) in collaboration with the Philippine Footwear Federation, Inc., the footwear represents a bold intersection of science, design, and fashion. Engineered with locally sourced textile fibers and built around a precision sizing system for a more exact fit, each pair reflects a new chapter for Philippine shoemaking: one that is innovative, highly technical, and proudly homegrown.

At the heart of the collection is material innovation rooted in the land itself. Natural fibers such as abaca, banana, bamboo, and pineapple leaves are being transformed into high-performance textile components for footwear, reimagining indigenous resources as luxury-grade, sustainable design elements. The result is fashion with purpose: refined, responsible, and unmistakably Filipino.
Beyond the pageant stage, the significance runs deeper. For an industry long challenged by imported materials and changing consumer demands, SAFATOS signals a powerful shift toward self-reliance, advanced manufacturing, and a renewed confidence in local capability. Through computer-assisted production, engineered uppers and insoles, and a Filipino-standardized sizing system, Marikina craftsmanship is being reintroduced to the world not as heritage alone, but as the future.

What makes this partnership especially compelling is its symbolism. In a competition built on beauty, presence, and national identity, every step the candidates take becomes a showcase of Filipino excellence, from raw material to finished form. These are shoes that carry more than style; they carry story, innovation, and pride.
The runway has always been about what’s next. This year, what’s next is being made in Marikina.
