MUJI Unveils a Collection Woven from Nature’s Lightest Fiber

By Joy Evangelica Agoylo

MUJI Philippines is turning heads this season with a bold new experiment in sustainability: the Kapok Collection for 26S/S. Known for offering practical, minimal, and thoughtful designs, MUJI now introduces garments made from Kapok, a natural fiber sourced from the seeds of trees native to tropical Southeast Asia.

Light as air, breathable, and naturally hypoallergenic, Kapok is celebrated as the lightest natural fiber in the world. Its hollow, cotton-like fibers have traditionally been used for cushions and bedding, but MUJI transforms them into comfortable, functional, and environmentally conscious everyday clothing, perfect for layering, commuting, or casual living in the Philippines’ tropical climate.

This season, the collection features 13 versatile styles for men and women, including shirts, coveralls, and double-gauze blouses, rendered in muted, wearable tones: dark navy, medium gray, natural, saxe blue stripe, off-white, light yellow, light blue, gray stripe, black, and khaki. Nine styles are available now across MUJI stores nationwide (excluding pop-up stores) and online at mujiph.com, with the remaining four styles arriving in stores later this season.

More than just lightweight comfort, Kapok requires minimal water, fertilizers, and pesticides, making it a sustainable choice for conscious consumers. Its breathable structure absorbs moisture and retains heat, ensuring all-day comfort in the tropical climate.
