Move over, Super Bowl. FIFA just completely rewrote the entertainment playbook.
On July 19, 2026, the New York/New Jersey Stadium hosted a night of absolute madness. Part historic football showdown, part global music festival, the 2026 World Cup Final delivered pure, unadulterated drama both on the pitch and on the stage. When the dust finally settled, Spain walked away as world champions, Lionel Messi’s back-to-back dream was crushed, and the world witnessed the most star-studded 27 minutes in broadcasting history.
Here is how a night of sports and pop culture collided to shatter the internet.
Madonna on a Dune Buggy? Inside the Historic Halftime Show
For the first time ever, FIFA paused the game for an unprecedented, 27-minute mega-concert curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Global Citizen. It didn’t just push the boundaries of live entertainment—it completely obliterated them.

- The Ultimate Entrance: Pop royalty Madonna kicked off the show with her anthem “Music”, rolling onto the field in a custom dune buggy driven by none other than Brazilian football royalty Ronaldo and Ronaldinho.

- K-Pop Domination: BTS sent the stadium into an absolute frenzy, delivering a high-energy, synchronized dance routine to their global smash hit “Dynamite” that left jaws on the floor.

- The Afrobeats Link-Up: The undisputed “Queen of the World Cup,” Shakira, performed barefoot alongside Nigerian heavyweight Burna Boy. Together, they debuted the tournament’s official summer anthem, “Dai Dai”, backed by the viral Ghetto Kids dance troupe from Uganda.

- A Tear-Jerking Finale: After a soulful acoustic guitar set from Justin Bieber, Coldplay closed the historic night. Accompanied by legendary conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the internet-famous kids of Staten Island’s PS22 Chorus, they debuted a brand-new track, “Believe in Love”, as a massive fireworks display lit up the New Jersey sky.

The Pre-Game Hype Train: Post Malone and Tom Cruise
Before the players even touched the grass, the pre-kickoff closing ceremony was already dialing the energy up to an eleven.
Internet icon IShowSpeed got the stadium roaring early with a live drum line, followed by Hollywood legend Tom Cruise, who took the microphone to deliver an epic, cinematic speech about the unifying power of the beautiful game.
Moments later, Post Malone took over the stage to headline the pre-game concert, rocking the crowd with “Wow” before bringing out surprise guest Swae Lee for a massive, stadium-wide singalong to “Sunflower”. To top it all off, EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson brought down the house with a powerhouse, blues-infused rendition of the US National Anthem.

Midnight Drama: Spain Snatches the Crown in Extra Time
Once the music faded, the actual football match was a brutal, bad-tempered, and gripping thriller. Facing off against reigning champions Argentina, Spain had to battle through 120 minutes of intense physical warfare.
The match turned chaotic deep into second-half stoppage time when Argentina’s Enzo Fernández was slapped with a red card for a reckless challenge, leaving Argentina a man down.
Spain finally broke the deadlock in the 106th minute of extra time. Barcelona winger Ferran Torres, subbed on in the 62nd minute to inject life into the attack, became an instant national hero. He latched onto a brilliant header from Nico Williams and tapped the ball into the back of the net, sealing a 1–0 victory.
The win marks Spain’s second-ever men’s World Cup title, bringing a spectacular, star-studded end to the biggest tournament the world has ever seen.
