Steak, Spice, and Jazz Nights at Smith & Wollensky

The New York legend arrives in Manila with flair, flavor, and a whole lot of soul.

Stylish attended the official opening of Smith & Wollensky, and let’s just say, if this is how America does steak, we’re all in. The night was a full experience: perfect plates, great company, and the kind of jazz that makes you sway in your seat. This newly opened BGC branch is the steakhouse’s first Southeast Asian location, and it made quite the entrance.

Inside the stylish space at The Finance Centre, we were welcomed with soft, airy bread (a must-mention), followed by the Angry Shrimp, though no one seemed mad, not even the shrimp. Just a playful kick of heat. Then came the Hokkaido Sea Scallop Duo: light, delicate, and just fancy enough to feel like a treat. We were also served the Wollensky Salad, crisp and refreshing, with generous chunks of potato and thick-cut bacon that made it especially satisfying.

Then the mains started rolling in. The Uni Fillet delivered big island energy, like someone handed you sea urchin fresh off a boat. Clean, slightly indulgent, and surprisingly balanced. The Prime New York Strip was as tender and dependable as you’d hope, while the Bone Marrow brought a deep, earthy richness we didn’t know we needed.

At one point, an American Wagyu Tomahawk steak was literally swinging for dramatic flair. But while that was impressive, the real winner at our table was the Chateaubriand, herb-crusted, melt-in-your-mouth, and unforgettable. It was incredibly tender and indulgent without being overwhelming.

The sautéed mushrooms with chorizo brought a deep umami kick to change things up, while the creamed spinach turned out to be a surprise favorite. And yes, we absolutely saved space for the iconic Giant Chocolate Cake, made with 100% Philippine cocoa just for the Manila branch.

The launch wasn’t just about the food, it was a full celebration. We shared the night with U.S. Ambassador MaryKay Carlson, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, and the man who brought the brand to Asia, John Hardyment. Actress Ruffa Gutierrez also graced the event, adding a touch of glam to an already starry evening.

And just when we thought we couldn’t love the place more, Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Bobby West took over the piano, turning the bar room into a cozy, feel-good jazz lounge.

Smith & Wollensky is now officially open in Manila. Come hungry, come curious, and bring people you like sharing food with, because trust us, you’ll want to try everything.
