The History & The Fight: Why This Comeback Matters
By Cedie Lazaro

The White Party wasn’t born on a dance floor—it was born on the frontlines of a movement.
The concept started in 1985 in Miami, Florida, when gay rights advocates Frank Wager and Jorge Suarez threw a massive fundraiser to battle the raging HIV/AIDS epidemic. They chose an all-white dress code to send a powerful message: “everyone is equal in white.” It was a visual anthem of solidarity, hope, and community survival.

In 2001, that spark hit the Philippines, giving birth to White Party Manila. What started as an intimate, fiercely proud street festival at the iconic intersection of Julio Nakpil and Maria Orosa Streets in Malate eventually exploded into the country’s biggest annual queer gathering—before going on a painful 12-year hiatus in 2014.

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the legend officially woke up. White Party Manila: Reignite completely took over the World Trade Center in Pasay City. But this wasn’t just nostalgia. While global HIV rates are steadying, the Philippines is currently facing a silent health crisis with some of the fastest-rising rates of new HIV infections in the Asia-Pacific region. By moving from the local streets of Malate to a massive national arena, the revival brought queer visibility—and urgent health advocacy—straight into the mainstream spotlight.
The Performances: A Main-Stage Masterclass
When the lights went down, the World Trade Center turned into an absolute pressure cooker of talent. The lineup brought together the ultimate titans of Philippine music and drag:
- Vice Ganda: The Unkabogable Superstar delivered a headline set that was pure electric energy, flawlessly mixing her signature comedy with fierce, empowering anthems.

- Ben&Ben: The indie-folk icons brought the house down, leading thousands of voices in emotional, arena-wide sing-alongs.

- Maki: The Gen-Z pop breakthrough artist kept the crowd jumping with his infectious, viral hits.

- Gloc-9: The rap legend injected rapid-fire energy into the stadium with his timeless, socially conscious tracks.

- Marina Summers & Maxie Anderson: The Drag Race Philippines royalty proved why Filipino drag rules the world, serving gravity-defying lipsyncs and lethal choreography.

The Ultimate Highlights: Fashion, Icons, and a PHP 1M Impact
The night was packed with moments that immediately went viral, proving that this festival has both style and a massive heart:

- Party with a Purpose: The absolute crowning moment of the night wasn’t a song—it was a shield. Vice Ganda and Mentorque Productions officially handed over a PHP 1 million donation to LoveYourself, Inc. This massive fund goes directly to fueling free nationwide HIV testing, community treatment clinics, and vital education.
- Get Get Aw!: The legendary SexBomb Girls staged a nostalgic, high-octane performance of their biggest hits and were officially crowned the “Gay Icon of the Year.”

- The Runway Blew Up: Renowned designer Bang Pineda turned the arena into a high-fashion matrix, debuting a stunning all-white collection walked by A-list icons like Mimiyuuuh, Janella Salvador, Chie Filomeno, and Alex Diaz.

White Party Manila didn’t just return—it proved that in 2026, the ultimate celebration is one that protects its own community.
