Racking up an astonishing $264.1 million worldwide during its opening weekend, the Universal Pictures release has cemented itself as the biggest global box office debut of Nolan’s career.

Filmed using groundbreaking 70mm IMAX technology, the 173-minute film features a fiercely competitive, star-studded ensemble cast bringing Homer’s ancient characters to life. To celebrate the film’s massive success, cinema chains like HOYTS have popularized the ultimate viral challenge: mapping out your birth month to your official crew member.

Rather than relying on artificial CGI backdrops, Christopher Nolan built full-scale ancient ships and pushed practical effects to its limits on an immense $250 million production budget. From using forced-perspective animatronics to manifest the terrifying Cyclops to constructing sets across the sands of Morocco and the volcanic wilds of Iceland, the film treats its cast to a raw, tactile environment.

Nolan’s trademark non-linear structure weaves seamlessly between the psychological trauma of Odysseus’s past and Telemachus’s present-day struggle, resulting in a dark, sweeping, and unforgettable adaptation.
