From athletes representing their countries, to your neighbor learning how to ride a bike, to those quiet promises we make to ourselves about getting back into fitness, movement has always been part of daily life, not just competition, but a way we show up for ourselves.

This idea came to life at the opening of Sports Direct’s first-ever Philippine store, as the UK’s leading sports retailer officially landed at Ayala Malls Manila Bay. The grand opening felt less like a formal launch and more like a celebration of energy, community, and movement in all its forms.

Walking into the event, the atmosphere was unmistakably sporty and upbeat. There was a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, but one of the most memorable moments happened just before the doors opened, when the Sports Direct team gathered in a circle, hands in, chanting together like a true team. It was genuine, enthusiastic, and set the tone for what the brand stands for.

Inside, the space felt playful and immersive. Photo zones were scattered throughout the store, from a finish-line moment where you could pretend to complete a marathon, to interactive areas inspired by basketball, weightlifting, and tennis. It was impossible not to stop, pose, and have fun.

Exploring the store itself was where Sports Direct truly shined. Walls of shoes immediately caught my eye, with options that catered not just to the boys, but very much to the girlies too. Beyond footwear, there were water bottles, jump ropes, yoga essentials, swimwear, tennis rackets, and even an in-store tennis stringing service. Wellness and general fitness were clearly just as important as performance sports.

Of course, I ended up shopping. I picked up pieces I knew my boyfriend and my dad would love, proof that this really is an all-in-one destination. Sports Direct feels like a one-stop shop for all sports, branded edition, where quality is guaranteed because the brands are trusted and well-loved.

At Ayala Malls Manila Bay, Sports Direct officially becomes a new hub for anyone who wants to move, train, play, or simply start.
