Veejay Floresca has just announced via her Instagram post that she will be receiving the Creative Icon Award on June 25, 2026, in Los Angeles.

Presented during Pride Month by APAIT (Access to Prevention Advocacy Intervention & Treatment, a division of Special Service for Groups), the award celebrates her monumental milestone as the first transgender winner of Project Runway. In her announcement, she beautifully noted that the honor is “bigger than me” and serves as a powerful reminder that the trans and LGBTQ+ community “belongs, succeeds, and inspires.”

When Veejay Floresca steps onto the stage in Los Angeles to accept the Creative Icon Award, the moment will signify much more than individual triumph. Presented by APAIT during Pride Month, the honor celebrates a monumental shift in fashion history: Floresca’s groundbreaking victory as the first openly transgender winner of Bravo’s Project Runway. For Floresca, the accolade is a profound reminder that the trans and LGBTQ+ community “belongs, succeeds, and inspires.”

This recognition serves as the perfect lens through which to view a career defined by architectural precision, relentless persistence, and an unwavering commitment to slow fashion.

Floresca’s rise to international acclaim is the definitive masterclass in the “long game.” Her televised fashion journey began in the late-2000s, where she first made waves by securing third place in the inaugural season of Project Runway Philippines Season 1.

Rather than stopping there, she spent the next two decades refining her craft, moving from the classrooms of Manila to the global stage. That relentless dedication culminated in a historic moment of redemption and triumph: being crowned the Winner of Project Runway US Season 21.

Her historic Project Runway win came after years of auditioning for the US franchise. That persistence culminated in a $200,000 grand prize, a feature in Elle magazine, and a permanent place in pop culture history as the first person of Filipino descent to take the title.

Floresca’s work is instantly recognizable for its structural integrity. Heavily influenced by her rigorous academic background—including a Master’s degree in Fashion from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and specialized bridal studies at Central Saint Martins in London—her aesthetic balances clean minimalism with dramatic depth.

• Sculptural Silhouettes: Garments function as wearable art, focusing on form, tailoring, and geometric lines.

• Conscious Creation: Operating from her base in New York City, Floresca champions eco-conscious, made-to-order slow fashion to minimize industry waste.

Dual Identities: She balances commercial and bespoke worlds seamlessly through her ready-to-wear line, FOUR28, and her high-end custom bridal brand, Madore.

Beyond the measurements, textiles, and runway lights, Floresca views fashion as an act of service. Her brand identity is built on creating safe, empowering spaces for women and the LGBTQ+ community. By shifting the focus away from mass production and toward intimate, bespoke client experiences, she ensures that every garment tells a story of identity and strength.

As she prepares to receive the Creative Icon Award, Floresca stands not just as a designer at the peak of her technical powers, but as a living blueprint for the next generation of queer and Asian creatives demanding their rightful place in the global fashion vanguard.
